Kent was previously with the firm of Thompson Hine & Flory in Cleveland. In April, 2002, Kent, Edna Scheuer and Melanie Mackin formed the firm of Scheuer Mackin & Breslin LLC. Kent has been the partner in charge of the Northern Ohio office of Scheuer Mackin & Breslin LLC for the last 12 years. He has more than 31 years of legal experience, of which 27 years have been focused in the fields of workers compensation defense and defense litigation.
Kent represents trucking companies, hospitals, steel manufacturers and fabricators, medical device manufacturers and other employers in the areas of workers’ compensation, intentional torts, safety violations, general liability defense and employment discrimination cases. He has defended trucking companies and manufacturers in general liability claims, in addition to successfully defending them against intentional tort claims while asserting their statutory and common law claims for subrogation. He also represents excess carriers in assertion of subrogation rights in high exposure tort claims. His practice includes representation before Courts of Common Pleas, Courts of Appeals, the Ohio Supreme Court, the Industrial Commission of Ohio and the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation. He also practices before the U.S. District Court for both the Northern and Southern Districts of Ohio and the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
Kent continues to speak at numerous seminars, including those involving rights, duties and obligations under the Medicare Secondary Payer Act, Violations of Specific Safety Requirements, Subrogation and Workers’ Compensation Fraud, Substance Abuse and Ethics. Kent is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, and the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association.
Kent earned his Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Cincinnati and is a 1984 graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Law.
